He act like he can’t stand me no more. He come home with a girl from round Gray. I think she thought she love him. He beat me today cause he say I winked at a boy in church. Didn’t mean nothing to him. He pull my dresstail and ast can he have some blackberry jam out the safe. But I don’t know how to fight. All I know how to do is stay alive. I mean he just brought her here, dropped her, and kept right on running after Shug Avery. It like he looking at the earth. It need somethin? I don’t say nothing. But I’m alive. Plus, he still in love.
